CVS launches new safe medication disposal program in Va.

RICHMOND, Va. (WSET) -- Representatives with CVS Health along with Virginia Attorney Mark Herring will launch the expansion of the company's drug disposal program.

The program will mark the first time that CVS will allow the public to bring unused medications to select CVS Pharmacy locations for safe and environmentally friendly disposal.

They said proper disposal of unwanted medication is critical to addressing and preventing opioid abuse.

The new program expands an ongoing safe medication disposal partnership between CVS Health and law enforcement that has already collected more than 155 metric tons of unneeded medication.
