BROOKNEAL, Va. (WSET) - Crime Stoppers hosting a fundraiser Saturday in Brookneal to keep fighting crime effectively.

Crime Stoppers sends out a Crime of the Week, and that has led to several arrests for all kinds of crimes.

Remember the high-profile armed robbery at the Sunshine Market in Lynchburg that happened in January?

A Crime Stoppers tip solved that case in less than 24 hours, according to officials.

Although police apprehended the suspect, the tipster will remain a mystery.

"Whether you text or you call in, it's completely anonymous," Joel Hinkley, the Regional Crime Stoppers Coordinator, said.

Crime Stoppers is now giving people more ways to tip, including texting.

Let's say you see something suspicious and you want to report it to police, you simply take out your phone, dial 274637, make sure you enter "CVCS" before your message, and hit send.

Those tips are delivered straight to an officer's phone and laptop.

Officers can even respond to the tipster and have a conversation, but all communication is guaranteed to be anonymous.

And, if that's not enough incentive to give a tip, information that leads to the arrest and conviction earn rewards up to $1,000.

Crime Stoppers has given $2,600 for tips in 2017 so far.

But, the organization is a nonprofit, and that's why there will be a fundraiser Saturday.

The bingo game will be at Good Times Entertainment Complex in Brookneal from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Tickets for the event are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

If you want tickets, contact Jessica McCall or Robin Monroe, text BINGO TICKET to (434) 446-7561, or email BINGO TICKET to

According to the event's flyer, there will be a selection of LuLaRoe merchandise on sale.
