Christmas carolers surprise terminally ill Vietnam veteran
ROANOKE, Va. (WSET) -- An Army veteran, terminally ill with lung cancer, was surprised Thursday by the New Freedom Farm veterans and volunteers who were escorted by the Roanoke Police Department to sing Christmas carols at his home.
Along with being a Vietnam veteran, Steve Goodwin is also a retired Salem Police officer.
New Freedom Farm said he's been homebound for weeks.
So the organization decided to bring horses, donkeys, and carolers to his home in Roanoke to surprise him for the holidays.
New Freedom Farm is a sanctuary for veterans suffering from substance abuse disorders, PTSD, etc. and has been a safe place for Goodwin since the grand opening.
