Police: Man hospitalized after shooting at VSU, investigation underway

PETERSBURG, Va (WSET) -- Police are investigating a shooting at Virginia State University that sent one man to the hospital.

Officials say the shooting took place just after 11 p.m. Thursday on Hayden Street.

The Virginia State University police department tweeted shortly after that the campus was on lockdown and everyone should stay inside.

Chesterfield Police say a man was shot and was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

So far, no arrests have been made.

The lockdown was lifted around 2:20 a.m., according to the university police department's Twitter.

Chesterfield County police believe this is an isolated incident, and that there is no further threat to the campus.

This is a second shooting at the university in a week.

The first was on October 14, when a man was shot on the same street and taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
