Man arrested, charged with murdering woman in Martinsville
MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WSET) -- A man is behind bars and charged in the death of a Martinsville woman.
Robert Wayne Reynolds, 52, of Martinsville is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 53-year-old Katherine Likens.
The Martinsville Police Department says Reynolds was arrested Saturday at a hotel in Collinsville by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Martinsville Police Department, and the U. S. Marshal’s Joint Fugitive Task Force.
Reynolds and Likens knew each other and had previously dated, according to police.
Likens was reported missing just before 12:30 p.m. on Thursday and police subsequently began tracing her daily routines and typical routes of travel.
After several hours of searching multiple locations, officers found Likens’ body in the wooded area between Ellsworth St. and Cleveland Ave.
The Office of the Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.
“Although this investigation is on-going, I want to thank the hard working officers of the Martinsville Police Department, Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshall Fugitive Task Force, the up-town business community, and our citizens for their assistance during this unfortunate incident," Chief Eddie Cassady said in a press statement. "I also want to reassure our citizens that the up-town area is a safe place.”
Reynolds is being held in the Martinsville City Jail under no bond.
