BEDFORD, Va. (WSET) -- The Bedford Fire Department is investigating a fire at Longwood Avenue.

Brad Creasy, the Bedford Fire Dept. Chief said crews responded to a commercial structure fire around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday where first arriving units found light smoke showing from a single-story 100x100 commerical building.

He said all employees evacuated and were safe.

Firefighters quickly located the room where the fire began and sprinklers had been activated, which luckily held the fire to where it started.

Units were on the scene for more than an hour to help ventilate the smoke out of the building and salvage as much equipment as possible.

They said one employee had minor chemical burns, but refused to go to the hospital.

Creasy said the building mostly has smoke and water related damage, estimated at $20,000.

The fire is currently being investigated by the Bedford County Fire Marshal's Office.

According to Google Maps, the business is Blue Ridge Optics.
