Bedford Co. Sheriff's Office plants tree in honor of fallen officers for Police Week

BEDFORD Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Bedford County Sheriff's Office planted a tree in honor of officers across the state who have lost their lives in the line of duty on Wednesday for National Police Week.

Officers throughout our area have been having similar events all week.

The Bedford County Sheriff's office decided to participate this year by planting a tree and putting a plaque made for the front lawn.

They say its important to support law enforcement who work hard to make a difference in our communities every day.

"If you're a state trooper, deputy sheriff, city police, federal officer, it makes no difference, we're a part of a big family," said Bedford County Sheriff Mike Brown.

The department chose a dogwood tree because of its connection with the Bible and the crucifying of Jesus.
