Bedford Co. family recovering in hospital after tree falls on vehicle
FOREST, Va. (WSET) -- A Bedford County family is in the hospital after a tree fell on their car Tuesday night.
The Bedford County Department of Fire and Rescue said the Bedford County E-911 center got a call about a 'motor vehicle collision' on State Route 811, Thomas Jefferson Road, in Forest about a large tree that had fallen on a vehicle with people inside.
First arriving units found a Jeep with three people inside.
The Shull family said they were driving near Thomas Jefferson Road and Meadows Drive when the tree fell on top of their Jeep around 8 p.m.
Joanna and Tim Shull were in the car with their 12-year-old daughter, Callie, at the time.
Family members said both Joanna and Callie had neck fractures and Callie had to be transported to UVA for further treatment.
The accident left Tim with a broken nose and a concussion.
Family members say all three are in stable condition but still in a lot of pain; although their vehicle is a total loss, family said they are grateful they made it out.
Both Callie and Tim are expected to be released soon.
Fire officials said it took 20 minutes to get the family out of the vehicle.
Units from the Forest Volunteer Fire Dept., Bedford Volunteer Fire Dept., Brookville Timberlake Volunteer Fire Department, and Bedford County Fire and Rescue all responded.
