LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Many BB&T customers have had trouble accessing their accounts because of an equipment malfunction.

BB&T tweeted their systems were being restored Friday afternoon.

The bank tweeted the malfunction was at one of their data centers.

As of Friday afternoon, the bank tweeted there was no reason to believe the issue was related to a cyber-security breach.

"They don't believe that it is. They didn't say that is wasn't. So, there is a big concern. You're talking about livelihood," Sharon Patton, a Lynchburg BB&T customer said.

Customers were unable to access the automated phone service and ATM until Friday afternoon.

"When you have checks that are waiting to clear and you don't know if they're gonna clear or not, that is concerning," Patton said.

The bank says officials are still working to get the online and mobile platforms up and running.

The bank even extended the hours Friday to 7 p.m., and officials say branches will also be open until two hours longer than normal Saturday.
