Appomattox Civil War Museum re-brands to tell the whole story of the war
APPOMATTOX Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Museum of the Confederacy has a new name after they decided to re-brand the Appomattox location to the American Civil War Museum.
The director of visitor engagement said the have been talking about changing the name since 2014.
There are two other American Civil War Museums in Richmond.
The Director says it makes sense for all three museums to have the same name, but the museum's mission didn't change, just expanded.
"We wanted to make sure we were telling the story of the war from multiple perspectives of union, confederacy and freedom," said Bob Sayre, the Director of Visitor Engagement.
Sayre adds the name change is coincidental timing in light of the events in Charlottesville, but says that had nothing to do with the new signs.
