AMHERST, Va. (WSET) - The Humane Society of Amherst County is looking for serious adopters after receiving 15 dogs Tuesday.

According to the Amherst County Sheriff's Office, the dogs were surrendered by their owner who could no longer take care of them.

The Humane Society says this is more dogs than they normally get in two weeks.

Officials say the influx of dogs will cause a "tremendous strain on our kennel space."

They say all the dogs in their care need homes now more than ever.

To help alleviate some of the overcrowding, the humane society is offering $50 off the adoption fee for any dog over 50 pounds.
