Officials: 3 rescued after boat overturned in James River


UPDATE: According to officials, a man and two women were fishing on the James River when their boat got caught on brush and overturned.

They said the incident occurred in the area of the Holcomb Rock Power Plant.

All three people were rescued from the water.

Officials said they refused medical treatment.


BEDFORD Co. , Va. (WSET) -- According to Amherst County emergency dispatch, there is a swift water rescue happening in Bedford County.

Dispatch says Monelison Volunteer Fire Department and Amherst Volunteer Fire Department were called out to assist in the rescue at 2:04 a.m. on Friday.

The rescue is happening in the area of the Holcomb Rock Power Plant on the James River.

They say that three people were in a boat when it overturned.

All people are accounted for, but two people are in the water.

No word on possible injuries.
