About 2,500 people lose power in Lynchburg after tractor trailer hits pole at Big Lots

UPDATE 8:05 p.m.

About 435 people are still without power.

AEP estimates the lights will be on around midnight.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- About 2,500 people were without power in Lynchburg due to an accident on Timberlake Road.

A tractor trailer hit a power pole in the parking lot of Big Lots, according to witnesses on the scene.

Officials said the truck clipped the corner while making a turn on Timberlake Road and hit the pole.

They said the driver broke the utility pole and power had to be shut off at Big Lots.

While emergency crews are waiting for a company to come fix the pole, the truck is propping it up so it can be stabilized.

Power will be restored once the pole is fixed.

There were no injuries.

According to AEP's website, power should be restored by midnight Friday for those still left in the dark.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
