HUDDLESTON, Va (WSET) -- The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries has confirmed a 9-year-old's body was recovered from the bottom of Smith Mountain Lake.

Authorities say the boy was jumping on a water trampoline when those watching him realized he was missing. This was at a private residence just north of Smith Mountain Lake State Park.

Just before 6 p.m. Saturday rescue crews were called to the scene they recovered the body of the boy 20-feet below the surface about three hours later.

Authorities said the boy is from Durham, North Carolina.

They say he was not wearing a life jacket and the department of game and inland fisheries is reminding people - if you have young ones on the water, they advise they wear life jackets.
