A 72-year-old Rustburg man is dead after a motorcycle crash in Campbell County.

Virginia State Police said they responded to Route 615, approximately 400 feet south of Route 24 at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 21.

A 2014 Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited motorcycle was traveling north on Rt. 615 when it crossed the center line, ran off the left side of the road, and struck a mailbox.

The motorcyclist, Bennie L. Franklin, 72, of Rustburg, died at the scene. Police said he was wearing a helmet.

A woman passenger was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
