WASHINGTON Co., Va. (WSET) -- Virginia State Police said a teenager is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Washington County this weekend and a woman has been charged.
Police said a vehicle pulled out from Black Hollow Road, across the median, and was turning left into the northbound lanes of Route 19, when the driver hit another car around 6:50 p.m., Saturday, May 2.
The impact of the crash caused the vehicle, which was traveling north on Route 19, to run off the right side of the road and into a ditch.
The vehicle's driver, a 33-year-old male of Abingdon, was not injured in the crash.
A 50-year-old female passenger and a 10-year-old female passenger were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor and serious injuries. A 16-year-old male passenger from Abingdon was transported to Johnston Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the car, Kayla M. Byrd, 35, of Abingdon, Va., was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
State Police say she was charged with reckless driving. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Both drivers and all passengers were wearing seatbelts.
The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the ongoing crash investigation.
