16-year-old charged with involuntary manslaughter after crash that left girl dead
MONTGOMERY Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Mongtomery County Sheriff's Office said a 16-year-old boy has been charged after a crash that killed a 16-year-old girl in July.
The sheriff's office said the boy was driving and the girl was the passenger.
According to investigators, the boy ran off the road and overturned into an embankment around 11:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Mudpike Road on Sunday, July 22.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene and the boy was taken to the hospital.
Friday, November 2, more than three months later, the sheriff's office announced that the boy has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, and operating a motor vehicle as an unlicensed driver.
The charges were placed after the sheriff's office said they got DNA evidence that established the boy was driving.
Evidence also indicated that he was going more than double the speed limit at the time of the crash.
The case is pending trial, no further information is available at this time.
