Direct primary care office opening up in Boonsboro
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Coming soon to Lynchburg, Dr. Andrew Anderson is opening up Boonsboro Direct Primary Care.
Dr. Anderson explained direct primary care is different because they don't accept insurance. That means there is no co-pay and you don't have to meet a deductible.
Instead they do a monthly fee. It's $80 per month for an individual, $130 per month for a couple, and $165 per month for a family of 5.
"Insurance is important for unexpected and catastrophic illness and injury. By covering all of your primary care needs for one low fee, direct primary care allows you to switch to an insurance plan that meets your budget without sacrificing quality healthcare."
Anderson said with Boonsboro Direct Primary Care he's only taking on 600 patients, which he said is far fewer than a normal doctor. Anderson explained it will allow him to get to know patients better and spend more time with them. An average doctor visit will last between 30 and 60 minutes. It also allows him to see people that day or the next day if they get sick. "You ask yourself that question, is this worth going to see the doctor? As a father of three, even as a physician I see myself asking that and you just don't need to anymore. You can just shoot a quick text and say hey they've got this and this going on, do we need to see you tomorrow and I can write back and let you know," he said.
Anderson still recommends having insurance, but said this gives people a different option to go with a cheaper insurance plan for emergencies like hospitalizations and surgeries.
He is taking patients now. You can call (434) 214-0722 to reach his office.
The new office will open on Boonsboro Road on October 31.
