Country music singer Don Williams has died at the age of 78.

Williams, hailed as one of the most distinctive song stylists, passed away after a short illness.

Williams found his way to Nashville in the early 70s, debuting his hit "The Shelter of Your Eyes" and kept bringing the laid-back hits. He topped the charts in 1974 and every hit up until 1991 would make the Top-40 on the Billboard Country charts. Songs he's known for include "It must be love," "Tulsa time," and "She never knew me."

Williams was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010.
