We have a lot of heroes - living here in the heart of Virginia and ABC 13 is highlighting them!

The Lynchburg Fire Department said they were thanked on Saturday for a rescue effort they helped with last week.

"They don’t do it for the thanks, but it’s always nice to be appreciated," the department said.

According to the department, last week, the crews on Engine 6, Medics 7 & 8, Tower 2, Rescue 1, and EMS 1 were involved in a tricky rope rescue of an individual whose car had gone off the road and down a steep embankment and into the woods.
