LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — We have many Heroes in the Heart of Virginia -- and ABC 13 is highlighting them.
On Thursday, the Lynchburg Fire Department is remembering the heroic acts and sacrifice of one of their fallen firefighters 28 years later.
Carter Martin was a firefighter with LFD and volunteered with the Brookville-Timberlake Fire Department.

On June 22, 1995 - heavy rains flooded Route 460. The Timberlake Dam burst sending millions of gallons of water downstream towards the highway.
Martin and the motorist he was working to rescue were swept away and died.
"We honor and remember his heroism and his sacrifice," LFD shared.
