Poplar Forest hosting two events for Independence Day
FOREST, Va. (WSET) -- What better place to celebrate the 241st anniversary of the Declaration of Independence than at Poplar Forest, Thomas Jefferson's cherished private retreat.
There will be two performances of the 1776, the Concert Musical the weekend before July 4.
They will be Friday, June 20 and Saturday, July 1 at 7:30 p.m.
"Revel in the spirit of the Revolutionary era with Ben (Franklin), Richard Henry (Lee), John (Adams) and Tom (Jefferson); become acquainted with their personal foibles; and celebrate their brilliant contributions to our country’s history," they wrote in a press release.
You can also sample a selection of local libations.
They ask that you make a reservation as well.
Admission is $17.76 for adults, $13 for youth, and $4 for children ages 5 and under.

Poplar Forest is also hosting an Independence Day Celebration on Tuesday, July 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
You can enjoy performances by Old Time fiddler, Mark C. Campbell and folk musicians Pete and Ellen Vigour, colonial-period entertainment by Common Stock, demonstrations by colonial artisans and craftsmen Cardinal Lace Guild lace makers, a basket maker, a horn and pouch maker, a blacksmith, a brickmaker and a spinner, pony rides, colonial games, colonial militia recruiting and drilling, quill pen writing, children’s activities, restoration carpentry demonstrations, an archaeological excavation by the slave quarter site, and a special appearance by the cast of 1776.
Admission to the Independence Day Celebration at Poplar Forest is $9 for adults, and free for children under the age of 14.
Tours of Thomas Jefferson’s cherished villa retreat will be offered during the Independence Day Celebration at a reduced rate.
