We need you to help build Habitat for Humanity's 300th home

(Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity)

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- ABC 13 is partnering with Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity to build their 300th home, just in time for Christmas.

Work on this home begins in earnest on November 29, when the walls will be erected and the home will be under roof in just a few short days.

Several businesses have partnered with ABC 13 and Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity to make this 300th home a reality, but we need your help as well!

We are looking for volunteers (whether swinging a hammer or delivering lunch) or if you would rather contribute monetarily to Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity, we would greatly appreciate it.

Something you may not know about Habitat for Humanity is that it is truly a hand up and not a handout.

Individuals and families who receive a Habitat home are not given the home, rather they qualify for a zero percent loan. Yes, Habitat recipients make a mortgage payment, just like everyone else, but unlike all other mortgage holders, Habitat recipients also have sweat equity in the home they’re purchasing; they are required to work with the other volunteers.

The 300th home is a blitz build and will be completed in just three weeks; that can’t happen without the commitment of the local business community.

Join us in thanking: Lynchburg Ready Mix for donating the concrete to pour the footers, sidewalks and driveway; Taylor Brothers for providing the framing package and other materials; Ply Gem for donating the windows; Maddox Air & Electrical for providing the York heat pump and HVAC equipment and materials as well as wiring the house; Lynchburg Roofing for donating the material and labor for the roof; to Hajoca for donating all the plumbing supplies; and to Pinnacle Cabinets for donating the kitchen cabinets.

2018 is Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanities’ 30th year.

Join ABC 13 and our business partners in perpetuating Habitat’s legacy in our community by donating your time, your talent, or your charitable contribution to keep Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity going strong for another 30 years and another 300 homes.

To donate, you can do so online, right here.
