VMI Baseball Coach Marlin Ikenberry Stepping Down

Lexington - VMI will begin a search for a new head baseball coach right away.11-year-head coach Marlin Ikenberry is leaving the Keydets to pursue a business opportunity with ARMS software. He leaves VMI as the Institute's all-time leader in wins with 282, helping lead the Keydets to their first two national rankings in 2007 and 2010. The move is effective at the end of November. Longtime assistant and current Associate Head Coach Jonathan Hadra will serve as acting head coach during the search for Ikenberry's successor.Ikenberry, a VMI alumnus, saw 16 of his players drafted by Major League Baseball organizations, including a run of eight straight years from 2005-2012. 16 more players signed free agent contracts with pro teams under Ikenberry's guidance.Ikenberry, VMI Class of 1995, played four years as VMI's starting catcher, including the '93 season when the Keydets advanced to the Southern Conference Finals.
