Region 2000 Kicks Off First STEM Academy in Lynchburg

Lynchburg, VA - Region 2000 kicked off its first STEM Academy at CVCC by focusing on the importance of nuclear clean air energy.

Wednesday morning, students heard from lots of experts in the field, including representatives of the local Women in Nuclear organization.

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The academy offers programs at CVCC for high school seniors and juniors interested in that field.

"It's really important, especially to AREVA a to get more students in the pipeline who are going to specialize in a stem career," said Teresa Weinmeister.

Students also got to meet Indy car driver Simona De Silvestro, the driver of AREVA's clean energy car.
