A hardwood flooring manufacturer is expanding to Virginia, bringing millions in business to the state and new high-paying jobs in the Patrick County area.
Prolam, LLC, a Canadian-based manufacturer of hardwood floors for commercial trucks and dry van trailers, is investing in its first manufacturing operation in the U.S.
The company will invest $12.8 million in Patrick County to establish a new facility at the former Ten Oaks satellite facility on Dobyns Road.
According to Virginia Governor Ralph Northam's office, the project is expected to create 58 high-paying jobs as the company expands its total manufacturing capacity by 50 percent.
Prolam also committed to source at least 65 percent of its timber from Virginia loggers and forestland owners in the purchase of more than $20.5 million in hardwood over the next three years, the governor's office said.
“This project is a great win for Virginia’s hardwood loggers and forestland owners,” Northam said. “Forestry continues to be an important pillar of communities across the Commonwealth because industry leaders recognize the benefits of our abundant natural resources, extensive transportation network and unparalleled workforce. We thank Prolam for locating its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Southern Virginia and look forward to a long partnership with the company.”
