Prince George's County Police are mourning the loss of an off-duty officer who passed away during a medical emergency.

Corporal Ahmed Lopez who passed away Tuesday evening, police announced Wednesday. 

Lopez was a 15-year veteran with the police department and officials say the well-liked and dedicated officer spent most of his career assigned to the Bureau of Patrol - at the District IV station in Oxon Hill, Maryland. 

A native of D.C., police say he loved spending time with his family and friends, and his fellow officers. 

Lopez is survived by his son, siblings, and mother, and many other relatives and his family in Prince George's County, according to police.
