Courtny is an award-winning journalist excited to be in the Heart of Virginia. She joined the ABC 13 News team in May 2017 and serves as a multimedia journalist and reporter. She mainly works at the Danville Bureau, but works as a reporter at the main station when needed.
She is originally from Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, which is 45 minutes south of Pittsburgh. She attended Point Park University in downtown Pittsburgh and graduated with a B.A. in Broadcasting. Courtny also interned at KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh, Pa. while in college.
Before making the move to Central Virginia, Courtny worked at KRCG-13 in Jefferson City/Columbia, Missouri as a reporter and anchor. She was part of the team that brought home the station’s first regional Edward R. Murrow award for Overall Excellence in 2016. The award was for their coverage on the University of Missouri racial turmoil in 2015. She and her team were also nominated for a 2016 Mid-America Emmy for their continuing coverage on the University of Missouri racial turmoil.
She also won a first place Missouri Broadcasters Association Award for Best Feature Reporting in 2016. In this special story, she was able to honor the life of a fallen Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper.
She has a passion for everything Pittsburgh. This includes rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates.
Fun fact: she also worked for the Pittsburgh Pirates as part of their Bucco Brigade. Courtny will always be a “Yinzer” at heart.
She married a boy from Cleveland, Ohio, so she also enjoys rooting for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indians. Courtny will NEVER root for the Browns.
When she isn’t reporting or doing the news, she enjoys traveling, hiking, scuba diving, and riding roller coasters.
Courtny loves the Blue Ridge Mountains and is excited to explore the area.
