Salem Red Sox blank Lynchburg 6-0 in series opener
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Salem broke open a 1-0 game with two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh en route to a 6-0 win over Lynchburg Monday night at Calvin Falwell Field.
Dedgar Jimenez (1-0) struck out five in six scoreless innings to set the tone for Salem.
Shao-Ching Chiang had held the Red Sox to just one run until the sixth when Chad De La Guerra's two-run double increased Salem's lead to 3-0.
The Red Sox added three more in the seventh, Josh Ockimey with the big blow, a two-run triple.
Lynchburg had several chances to break through but stranded eight runners, including three at third base.
Salem improves to 2-and-3 on the season with the win while Lynchburg drops to 1-and-4.
Same teams play game two of the three-game series Tuesday night, 6:30 in Lynchburg.
