Salem bangs out 16 hits in 11-5 win over the Hillcats

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Salem broke open a 3-2 game with seven runs in the fifth en route to an 11-5 rout of Lynchburg Tuesday night.

The Red Sox improve to 3-and-3 on the season with the win while the Hillcats fall to 1-and-5 with their second-straight loss to Salem.

Josh Ockimey and Deiner Lopez led Salem's hitting attack, both going 4-for-5 on the night and scoring a run. Salem banged out 16 hits to 11 for the Hillcats.

Yonathan Mendoza led Lynchburg at the plate, going 3-for-4 and driving in three runs.

Salem goes for the three-game sweep Wednesday night at Calvin Falwell Field.
