McKenzie shines, but Hillcats bat silent in 1-0 loss to Winston-Salem

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Triston McKenzie went seven innings for the first time in his professional career, but an unearned run, generated by a bad pickoff throw, enabled Winston-Salem to defeat the Hillcats 1-0 at City Stadium Tuesday night.

The Hillcats failed to gain any offensive momentum, going 0-5 with runners in scoring position. Lynchburg loaded the bases in the 2nd inning with a two-out rally, but could not go any further. Lynchburg's five hits came from five different batters, and none went for extra bases.

McKenzie struck out 7 batters, and allowed just three hits in the losing effort, falling to 2-2 on the season.

The rubber match is set for Wednesday morning at 11am, as part of the annual "Say No To Drugs" Education Day at Calvin Falwell Field.
