Lynchburg wins, Salem loses in Wednesday Carolina League action

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (WSET) - Lynchburg scored five runs in the second inning to take an early lead and never trailed in a 9-5 win Wednesday afternoon at Winston-Salem.

It was the second-straight win for the Hillcats over the Dash.

Sam Haggerty had a bases-clearing triple in the second, three of his four RBIs for the Hillcats.

Jodd Carter and Willi Castro both had three hits for Lynchburg with two RBIs apiece.

The teams wrap up their four-game series Thursday night at 7 in Winston-Salem.


SALEM, Va. (WSET) - Frederick beat Northern Division leader Salem for the third straight night Wednesday.

The Keys defeated the Red Sox 5-2 to cut Salem's lead over Frederick to three games, Lynchburg is now in third place, four games behind Salem.

Michael Chavis, Trenton Kemp and Bryan Hudson all had two hits for the Red Sox.

Salem will try and avoid the four-game home sweep Thursday night at Haley Toyota Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
