Hillcats, Salem Red Sox both extend their winning streaks to 5
ZEBULON, NC (WSET) - The Lynchburg Hillcats swept a doubleheader at Carolina Tuesday night to extend their winning streak to five games and climb over .500 for the first time this season.
Lynchburg beat the Mudcats 1-0 and 7-1 to improve to 7-and-6 on the season.
Thomas Pannone kept Carolina hitters off balance throughout the first game to earn his first win of the season. Pannone with 5 and 2/3 innings, holding Carolina to just one hit while striking out six.
The Hillcats offense didn’t wait around in game two, as Lynchburg posted four runs on four hits in the first inning.
Triston McKenzie struck out eight in five innings and earned the win to improve to 2-and-1 on the season.
Lynchburg has its first off day of the season Wednesday before hosting Potomac in a four-game series starting Thursday night at Lynchburg City Stadium.
In Salem, the Red Sox rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat Wilmington 6-5.
Salem came all the way back from a 5-1 deficit to win and run its overall record to 8-and-5 on the season.
It's Salem's second walk-off victory in its first 13 games of the season.
The Red Sox will try and make it six in a row Wednesday night when they again battle the Blue Rocks. First pitch at Haley Toyota Field in Salem is set for 7:05 p.m.
