Hillcats avoid sweep, defeat Salem 4-1 in series finale

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Lynchburg broke open a 1-1 game with three runs in the 8th to beat Salem 4-1 Wednesday night in Carolina League Baseball.

The Hillcats avoid being swept three straight with the victory.

Yonathan Mendoza had the key hit in the 8th, a bases-loaded single to center that drove in two runs and gave the Hillcats a 3-1 lead.

Daniel Salters added an rbi single to cap the three-run inning.

Thomas Pannone shined again in his second start of the year. The southpaw struck out eight for the second straight outing and held Salem to two hits and a walk. The only run against him was unearned in six innings of work. Despite a pair of no-decisions, Pannone has 16 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in 11 innings.

The Hillcats hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Myrtle Beach Thursday for the first of four games on the Grand Strand.
