D-Braves Complete Sweep of Bristol
DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) - Bradley Keller was a single shy of the cycle, Alan Crowley and Garrison Schwartz homered, and the Danville bullpen shut down the Bristol offense for the third night in a row, completing the sweep with a 9-3 win Tuesday night.
The Pirates made Danville starter Kyle Muller work in the first inning, scoring two runs and making Muller throw 30 pitches. He would settle down and get through four innings, surrendering just the two runs while striking out five.
Danville took the lead for good in the second inning. Austin Bush scored on a Keller double and Keller would later score on a wild pitch to tie the game at 2-2. Crowley would ground out for the second out of the inning, scoring Jean Carlos Encarnacion in the process and giving the Braves a 3-2 lead.
In the 4th, Keller would triple and score on an Encarnacion single. Another wild pitch by Bristol (9-31) starter Jacob Taylor would bring Encarnacion in to score. Moments later, Garrison Schwartz launched his first career home run, giving Danville a commanding 7-2 lead.
Bristol would score in the 6th when Kyle Watson drove in Johan De Jesus, but Danville (21-19) immediately answered back with Crowley’s home run. Crowley began the season with Danville, going 0-5, and he was playing in his first game since returning from Rome. The Braves’ offense would strike one last time when Keller stepped up to the plate to lead off the 8th. His 5th home run of the season was a towering 450-foot moonshot that disappeared into the trees behind the scoreboard in left field. The 9-3 win gave the Braves their second sweep of the season, tying a season-high three game winning streak.
Danville takes a day off on Wednesday, before heading to Greeneville Thursday. Bruce Zimmermann will get the start in game one, tentatively followed by Huascar Ynoa and Jasseel De La Cruz. The Braves hosted Greeneville two weeks ago, winning two out of three. From there, the Braves will travel to Bristol for a three game series before returning home on August 9th.
