Batter up! Danville Braves prepare for season
DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) - Batter up! The Danville Braves' season is getting ready to start back up for the summer.
"We have quite a few fans that come from North Carolina," Betsy Haugh, the community relations and sales manager said. "We'll also have fans that travel from other places just to see Braves prospects."
Danville Braves management told ABC 13 it's the family friendly environment that fans enjoy.
The organization is doing a 5K race that fans can participate in this year. They're also bringing back fan favorites according to general manager David Cross.
"We're doing concert series on select dates."
Only two months away from the start of the season, management hopes it helps bring people to Danville and help out the local economy.
"There's the tax that we provide from the items we sell," Cross said. "We do a lot of online retail and that's tax dollars from outside the area that we're bringing in not only locally, but to the state."
It's not only about the dollar sign.
"There's also an opportunity for us to give back to the community with professional baseball players and the Braves organization top prospects by going to visit local schools or to community events," Haugh said.
For the fans, each season is one of a kind experience.
"It's definitely one of those things where every year brings a different perspective," Cross explained. "You've got different players, a different coaching staff, and you have to work with those personalities and everything, so it's every year's a little bit different."
You can buy single game tickets online only starting Friday.
The first home game will be June 25.
