W&L's Abell resigns to accept Davidson football job
LEXINGTON, Va. (WSET) - Washington & Lee head football coach Scott Abell has resigned to take the head coaching job at Davidson.
Abell coached the Generals for six seasons, winning three ODAC championships and compiling an overall record of 39-and-24, including a perfect 10-and-0 regular season in 2015.
The three conference titles are the most for any coach in program history and his .619 winning percentage the highest at W&L since 1921. Abell's teams set nearly every school rushing record.
Abell said in a statement "Washington & Lee is an amazing place and my family and I will cherish the memories and relationships we have made through the years. He added "The W&L football program is in a strong place because of its student-athletes and working alongside those students is what has made this decision so difficult."
