Winthrop beats Liberty 11-4 in Friday night college baseball
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Winthrop scored seven runs in the fifth inning to break open a 1-0 game and the Eagles cruised over Liberty 11-4 in Big South baseball Friday night.
It's Winthrop's second-straight win over the Flames in Lynchburg. The Eagles will look for the three-game sweep Saturday afternoon, first pitch is at 2 at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
Liberty's bats finally came to life in the ninth, but it was way too little, too late.
The Flames scored three in the 9th, but freshman Zach Peek out of Jefferson Forest came on for Winthrop to strike out Jake Barbee to end the game.
Liberty drops to 20-and-13 overall, 7-and-4 in the Big South. Winthrop improves to 7-and-4 in the Big South, 19-and-16 overall.
