Virginia-UNC-W, VT-Wisconsin set for opening round of NCAA tournament
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Pack your bags, Hokies and Cavalier fans, it's time to go dancing.
Virginia and Virginia Tech's basketball teams received their NCAA tournament berth seeds and assignments on Sunday, and while both are in the East region, their atmosphere's couldn't be more different. The 5th seeded Cavaliers will head to sunny Orlando, Florida for a 12:40pm matchup against the #12 UNC-Wilmington Seahawks, lead by Lynchburg native Kevin Keatts. Meanwhile, the Hokies will need to pack their warm clothes for a trip to Buffalo, as the Hokies face #8 Wisconsin in Buffalo at 9:40pm on Thursday.
If both squads continue to win, the Cavaliers and Hokies could potentially meet in the Sweet 16 on March 24th. However, both sides face challenging matchups, should they win their first round. Virginia would face the winner of #4 Florida (24-8) and #13 ETSU (27-7), while the Hokies would look at a probable match against #1 Villanova, who face the winner of Wednesday's Mount St. Mary's/New Orleans "First Four" game on Wednesday.
