UVa's Brenton Nelson named ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year

UVa's Brenton Nelson named ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year{ }

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WSET) - UVa redshirt freshman safety Brenton Nelson has been voted the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year.

The former walk-on leads ACC freshmen with four interceptions this season. He's also broken up six passes and recorded two tackles for loss. Nelson got 29 votes to 9 for runner-up A.J. Terrell of Clemson. He's the second Cavalier to earn ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year honors, Quin Blanding was the first in 2014.

Miami's Mark Richt is the ACC Coach of the Year. He got 41 of a possible 59 votes from a panel including media and the league's head coaches. Clemson's Dabo Swinney was second with 10 votes.

Richt led the 10-and-1 Hurricanes to their first Coastal Division title and berth in Saturday night's ACC title game against Clemson.
