UVA holds off VMI 10-9 in college baseball

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WSET) - College baseball in Charlottesville, 18th-ranked UVa ran up a 10-1 lead, then held on for dear life to edge visiting VMI 10-9 Tuesday afternoon.

The Keydets had won in Charlottesville last Tuesday 9-4 and were going for a season sweep of the Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers, though, jumped all over VMI starter Brandon Barbery, scoring five in the first, including Charlie Cody's two-run double.

Freshman Tanner Morris stayed hot, two more hits Tuesday including an rbi single.

Second inning, UVa catcher Caleb Knight unloads a three-run homer to make it 8-1.

Virginia scored three in the second, two more in the third to make it 10-1.

VMI charged back with three in the fourth, two in the fifth and three more in the seventh to make it a one-run game.

Virginia held on for the 10-9 win, the Cavaliers improve to 5-and-3, VMI drops to 5-and-3 on the season.
