Radford Baseball defeats Liberty 10-4 in opener of weekend series
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Radford broke open a 2-2 game with seven runs in the third inning en route to a 10-4 win over Liberty in the opener of a three-game weekend series in Lynchburg.
Former L.C.A. standout Richard De la Cruz had a big hit in the inning, a two-run single.
Then the very next batter, Will Harless, belted a three-run homer to left and just like that a 2-2 game entering the inning turned into a 9-2 Highlanders lead.
Liberty got one run back in the bottom of the third on a Jonathan Embry solo homer, then added another in the fourth before lightning and heavy rains forced a delay of nearly two hours.
De la Cruz doubled and scored after play resumed to increase Radford's lead to 10-4 and there would be no more scoring the rest of the way.
Game two of the series is Saturday afternoon at 4.
With the win, Radford improves to 22-and-27 on the season. Liberty falls to 26-and-23 overall.
