Lynchburg Lacrosse defeats #5 York in NCAA tournament, 10-8
YORK, Pa. (WSET) - The last lacrosse matchup between #15 Lynchburg and #5 York, back in March, needed double overtime for the Hornets to pull off a 9-8 victory.
This time, the Hornets put it away early.
A 6-0 first half run, along with 19 saves from CJ Santora, propelled Lynchburg College into the NCAA D3 Elite 8, defeating York, 10-8.
The Spartans (17-4) briefly held a 3-2 lead, early in the 2nd quarter, before the Hornets (15-6) got red hot, thanks to two goals each from Logan Adams and Evan Lombardo. Lynchburg added goals from Andrew Thomas and Kevin Rogers to cap off the run, and put the Hornets into the halftime locker room, up 8-3.
From there, Santora went to work, denying the Spartans furious 2nd half shooting, allowing just two goals in the third, and 3 goals in the fourth, while Lynchburg's offense added a third goal from Lombardo, as well as an unassisted notch from Harrison Brennan to put the game out of reach.
With the win, Lynchburg advances to the NCAA Quarterfinals, where they will play #7 Denison (17-1) on Wednesday in Granville, Ohio.
