LU Softball Preps for Big South Tournament
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Liberty's Julia DiMartino has been voted Big South Pitcher of the Year by the league's head coaches while Dot Richardson is honored as league Coach of the Year for the second-straight season.
The Flames bring a program-best 14-game winning streak into this week's Big South Tournament at Radford.
Liberty is 44-and-12 overall, finishing the regular season with a three-game sweep of Winthrop.
As the 1 seed, LU gets a first-round bye. The Flames open play Thursday at noon against the winner of Wednesday's game between 4 seed Campbell and number 5 Gardner-Webb.
Madison Via, FLAMES FRESHMAN OUTFIELDER (NORTHSIDE), said "I just think we need to do the small things, make the routine plays and make the big plays when it matters."
Sarah Robertson, FLAMES JUNIOR INFIELDER, said "We're all meshing together, we're doing really well. And when one person's hitting, everyone's kinda hitting. Everything's kind of contagious, so when one person's doing well, everyone's doing well."
Chase Cassady, FLAMES JUNIOR PITCHER, said "It doesn't matter if you're coming in as the last seed or the first seed, you've got to come and play, anyone's game. You've got to play the way Liberty softball has been taught to play."
