LU Softball blanks Ohio 3-0 to advance to NISC Regional final
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Liberty earned a spot in the Natinal Invitational Softball Championship Regional final with a 3-0 shutout win over Ohio Wednesday afternoon at Liberty Softball Stadium.
The Lady Flames (40-18) will play in the championship game Thursday at 1 against either Ohio, Iona or UNC-Wilmington.
They'll play the winner of Thursday morning's 10 a.m. loser's bracket final.
Liberty secured its third 40-win season in program history, and needs one more win to tie the 1999 and 2006 teams for the program record.
The Lady Flames’ 16 shutouts this season are their most since a program-record 20 in 1999.
Kenzie Friesen (12-3) earned the win, allowing two hits while striking out four and walking one in 4 2/3 innings pitched. Julia DiMartino pitched the final 2 1/3 innings to earn her third save.
Kaitlin McFarland went 2-for-3 with a homer, the first of her career, a two-run shot and two RBI. Tori Zavodny batted 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored.
