LU men defeat Norfolk State 73-64 in Tournament

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -The Liberty men kept their season alive Monday night in the Vines Center, beating Norfolk State 73-64 in a first-round game in the Tournament.

LU won its second postseason game in school history .

The Flames advance to the second round of the CIT after posting its first 20-win season since the 2008-09 season during Head Coach Ritchie McKay’s first stint at Liberty.

Liberty’s Ryan Kemrite scored a career-high 30 points, shooting 69 percent from the floor. He's the first Flame to score 30 points since Davon Marshall tallied 31 at Longwood in February of 2013.

Lovell Cabill added a career-high 25 points, also shooting 69 percent for the game. Jonathan Wade led Norfolk State with 22 points, Zaynah Robinson added 19.

After Cabill scored 17 the first half and helped stake LU to an 11-point lead at the break, Norfolk State charged back to take a two-point lead with just over 13 minutes left.

Kemrite, though, took over in the second half with 19 points, including a trio of 3s. Kemrite had six 3s for the game.

Liberty now advances to the second round of the CIT, which begins on March 17 and will go through March 20. An opponent, time and location have yet to be announced.
