LU Baseball suffers first loss of the season, 4-2 to Binghamton
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Binghamton scored three runs in the second inning to grab an early lead and held it the rest of the game to beat Liberty 4-2 Friday evening in Lynchburg.
It's the Flames' first loss of the young season, Liberty falling to 4-1. The same teams play Saturday and Sunday afternoon at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
Leading 3-2 in the sixth, the visiting Bearcats tacked on another run. Pat Britt singled up the middle, plating Shane Marshall who had doubled, 4-2 Binghamton.
The Flames would threaten in the sixth, All-American D.J. Artis led off with a single by the first baseman. Liberty loaded the bases for the third time on the day but the Bearcats got out of the jam.
Liberty scored both of its runs in the third, the Flames held to just five hits on the day, stranding 14 baserunners.
