LU Baseball scores two in the 9th for walk-off win over Presbyterian
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Will Shepherd's two-run double down the first base line plated two runs and the Liberty Flames rallied from a run down in the 9th to edge Presbyterian 4-3 Thursday night in Big South Baseball.
The Blue Hose had snapped a 2-all tie in the top of the ninth on a Nick Wise solo homer to right.
The Flames were down to their last out with no baserunners when Andrew Kowalo reached on a fielding error. Designated hitter Eric Grabowski, who had two hits, then shot a single through the right side of the infield to move the runner to third.
Then the senior Shepherd , down to his last strike, lines one down the first base line, hard to tell if it was fair or foul. The umpire said fair and both runners scored on Shepherd's walk-off double, his first walk-off winner as a Flame.
Liberty takes the first game of the three-game conference series to move to 15-7 in the Big South, 31-20 overall. Presybyterian falls to 14-8 in conference and 28-26 overall.
Friday night's Game Two of the series is scheduled to begin at 6.
