Liberty/Virginia Tech split softball doubleheader, Flames win streak snapped at 13
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Liberty's Julia DiMartino threw a 3-hit shutout and struck out 7 to lead the Flames past Virginia Tech 6-0 in game one of a softball doubleheader at Liberty.
The Flames took advantage of six Hokies errors to post their 13th straight win, a new program record, including their ninth shutout in 11 games.
The Hokies, though, scored two in the sixth to take the lead and held off Liberty 3-2 to win the nightcap.
Halifax County freshman pitcher Taylor Barnes got the win for Tech. Trailing 2-1 in the top of the sixth, Breanna Davenport tied the game for the Hokies with an RBI single to left, then Lauren Duff's sac bunt scored Vanessa Gonzalez with the go-ahead run.
Tech's win snapped LU's win streak at 13, the Hokies won for just the second time in their last 12 games.
