FORT WORTH, TX (WSET) - Virginia rallied for five runs in the ninth inning, but it wasn't enough as Dallas Baptist ended the Cavaliers' NCAA Tournament bid Monday night 11-8 in the Fort Worth Regional.

Dallas Baptist jumped on UVa pitching early, scoring five runs in the first and four in the second to run up a 9-1 lead after two innings.

Trailing 11-3 entering their final at-bat, Virginia erupted for five runs in the ninth, including a 3-run homer by Pavin Smith that sliced the Patriots' lead to 11-8. Smith led the Cavaliers with five RBIs, Andy Weber had a team-high three hits.

Virginia actually brought the potential tying run to the plate before Dallas Baptist shut the door.

The Cavaliers finished the season with a 43-16 record, their 11th 40-win season in the last 14 years.

Dallas Baptist (42-20) advanced to face TCU in the championship game, needing to beat the Horned Frogs twice to advance to the Super Regional.
