Dallas Baptist eliminates UVa from NCAA Baseball Regional 11-8
FORT WORTH, TX (WSET) - Virginia rallied for five runs in the ninth inning, but it wasn't enough as Dallas Baptist ended the Cavaliers' NCAA Tournament bid Monday night 11-8 in the Fort Worth Regional.
Dallas Baptist jumped on UVa pitching early, scoring five runs in the first and four in the second to run up a 9-1 lead after two innings.
Trailing 11-3 entering their final at-bat, Virginia erupted for five runs in the ninth, including a 3-run homer by Pavin Smith that sliced the Patriots' lead to 11-8. Smith led the Cavaliers with five RBIs, Andy Weber had a team-high three hits.
Virginia actually brought the potential tying run to the plate before Dallas Baptist shut the door.
The Cavaliers finished the season with a 43-16 record, their 11th 40-win season in the last 14 years.
Dallas Baptist (42-20) advanced to face TCU in the championship game, needing to beat the Horned Frogs twice to advance to the Super Regional.
TCU needed just one game to advance, beating the Patriots 15-3. The Horned Frogs advance to their fourth-straight Super Regional.
